Economic Development Summit

Home > Economic Development > Economic Development Summit

The Just Imagine North Canton effort was begun in August of 2004.  The initial meeting brought together over 100 interested citizens with the goal of generating economic development by exploring the possibilities for the future of North Canton.  Initially the citizens identified the strengths and opportunities for North Canton.

The strengths and opportunites fell into two broad catagories of retaining North Canton's charm and pleasure of small town values and becoming more economically viable and sustainable.

Soon thereafter, the large group formed six (6) Ohio economic development committees to concentrate on specific facts:

Communications Committee, working on communicating both internally and externally North Canton's capabilities as well as our civic and family values;

Vital and Vibrant Commerical Environment Committee, working on establishing goals and methods to better North Canton's economic climate;

Community Planning Committee, working on optimizing the use of North Canton's resources;

Culture and the Arts Committee, working on making North Canton an artistic and cultural center;

Education/Knowledge Committee, working on preserving and enhancing the city of North Canton;

Recreation and Entertainment Committee, working on developing multi-media venues in for recreation and entertainment in North Canton.

The teams continue to meet, explore possibilities, develop strategies, develop elements of action plans, and network with other community assets and North Canton Government to implement their plans.

Further work is needed, but major strides have been taken to make North Canton a better family place to live, learn, work and play.  North Canton thanks the citizens who participated and remain engaged, the teams, and also Walsh University for organizing and guiding our efforts.
